ICU Travel Nursing
Estimated Number of Job Openings by State
Summer Forecast 2019
When you start researching or talking to travel nursing companies, one thing you will hear is “We staff in all 50 states.”
As you can see below, opportunity is not spread equally. While a company may staff in all 50 states and maintain relationships with facilities nation-wide, they might be able to staff in all 50 states at the time you are needing a position. Being able to find an assignment depends entirely on the availability of that position. So although recruiters can work wonders for us, we travelers always have to remember to be flexible and keep an open mind on where to travel.
This map is a compilation of what Nomadicare sees for the Intensive Care Unit travel nursing job market this season based on positions reported with our amazing Nomadicare recruiters and their companies.
What nomadicare wants to share with our icu travel nurses
Location, Location, Location! It’s so important to be flexible even with a good market. California is holding strong with the most available positions for our ICU nurses, and some other good locations include
Georgia and South Carolina
But always remember that flexibility still is and always will be key! The market ebbs and flows throughout the year, and you may have seen more opportunities if you were looking at the end of 2018 compared to this past Spring. Right now it’s pretty warm out there as summer approaches, and we think it is only going to get warmer in the next few months. Let’s just say it’s a GREAT time to be looking!
When checking out the map above, also consider, “Where am I licensed?” With your licenses, many states are adopting the compact license and making life as a travel nurse even easier. You can learn about the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact -https://www.nursecompact.com/index.htm) and find your way to these dream opportunities across the country. As you can see, there are a handful of positions available in so many states, so it’s best to be prepared for several locations! If you’re an experienced traveler or are ready to start the travel life, it’s a good time to start preparing and exploring opportunities!
Our advice to ICU Travel Nurses: Be flexible on location and the dream is real! Some states are hotter than others but the market seems pretty solid all around. Almost every State has good opportunity. Brush up on your licenses, get informed and start packing!
What this means for ICU Travel Nurses…
It’s still WARM out there, so dive right in! We know we have seen warmer, but keep your eye on this for sure! There is still great opportunity that seems likely to grow. We’ll be watching for another turn in the right direction as we reach next quarter!
