States with Jobs
As the weather gets colder, travel MRI tech jobs sure aren’t! Winter 2019 brings us no change in travel MRI tech jobs compared to Fall. In September 2019 there were about 22 travel MRI tech jobs open at any given time. Our data is showing the same numbers for winter, a time where many travel allied health specialties drop. Winter can’t stop our amazing MRI techs!
Travel on is the name of the travel MRI tech game.
That is steadily a warm market - Which puts the opportunity to see the country in your hands!
The market goes up and it goes down. This is a great season to enjoy the available opportunities. But don’t burn bridges or relationships by acting as if the industry revolves around you. Be empowered, but be flexible!
Submit to multiple jobs at once - Be flexible and let your recruiter tell you about jobs you may not normally go after. Have your recruiter submit you to several jobs you would want to increase your chances of landing an interview.
Compare pay and talk to several recruiters - Travel MRI tech jobs are just about always in demand. Make sure you work with 3 to 4 recruiters so you hear about all the jobs that could benefit you. Each company has unique jobs to tell you about. Ask for pay packages upfront and compare pay so you know you are getting what you are worth.
Consider certifications in additional specialties - Any cross-training is always a huge plus! Even if you aren’t certified, experience in other specialties is very valuable. Facilities are looking for the traveler that can do it all.
It’s Winter (aka the holidays are here!) - Consider there are more holidays in the last three months of the year than in any other season! If you are okay with working on the major holidays, it certainly helps your profile be selected for an interview. It shows the manager you are willing to help out their staff who want time off for family. If you want time off, make sure that is agreed upon before you sign your contract. And it should be clearly written in your contract as well! Plan accordingly. Make sure you are receiving all your hours each week to get your full per diem.
Show up for your recruiter - The world may still be your oyster for travel, but remember that your recruiter is hustling to get you the best placement possible! Know the difference between an empowered traveler and an entitled traveler. Be a great communicator and show up as a kind and professional partner to them. Recruiters will want to go that extra mile to land you the perfect travel MRI tech job when you’re a great traveler!
It’s cold outside but not in here! The market temperature is warm for travel MRI tech jobs! That means more jobs and less competition for each job. It is still a good season to enjoy traveling and have extra leverage in picking top pay packages.
When you hear travel allied health companies say, “We staff in all 50 states”.
What it means: The agency is legally set up with the ability to staff in all 50 states.
What it does not mean: The agency has jobs in all 50 states.

“MRI, There’s a lot of opportunities. Not as much as ultrasound but when you look at it, it seems just as good as normal. Everything looks great.”
“Book before December 15 or plan to wait until mid-January is the best course of action. We can try for other dates but realistically I tell travels that if they don’t renew into the new year to plan to be off for 4 weeks.”
“For MRI right now, I have a lot and I’ve been seeing a lot come out. I have states that you never see jobs in. They’re all December starts... The rates vary... They’re doing great!”
“Going to get a travel position is kind of like a deposit into your travel career. If you’re willing to go North into some of those colder places than you’ll have more opportunity and bigger bill rates.”
“Cross-training is really important even if you’re not certified. If you haven’t traveled, you’re at a facility, or you’re getting ready or thinking about traveling, that’s the most important information I can share. If you can get any other experience, do it. Cross-train.”
“If there’s someplace you want to go and you want to be more marketable invest in some other licenses. If you submit with a license it’s going to be easier [to get an interview] than if you don’t. Even though a lot of states don’t require licenses... Just look and see. Plan ahead and go and start the process so the sooner you get it the more marketable you are.”
