Fall 2019 has shown a slight increase in the travel OR market. Compared to March 2019 (there were 330 jobs nationwide), we are sitting around an average of 420 jobs for travel OR. Nice!
Travel on is the name of the OR travel game this fall.
It’s a steamy market - Which puts the opportunity to see the country in your hands!
Enjoy the high but don’t get cocky. The market goes up and it goes down. This is a great season to enjoy the abundance of opportunities but don’t burn bridges or relationships by acting like the industry revolves around you. Be empowered, not entitled. 😉
Be brave and travel to your bucket list locations - Some seasons are slower and we get to follow the jobs. Some seasons give us a chance to be brave and leap into dream locations. Take the leap now to go locations that are exciting for you instead of playing it safe.
Compare pay and talk to several recruiters - Your speciality is in demand. Make sure you work with 3-4 recruiters so you are able to hear about all the jobs that could benefit you. Remember that each company has unique jobs to tell you about. Ask for pay packages up front and compare pay so you know you are getting what you are worth.
It’s Fall - Consider there are more holidays in these 3 months than any others and plan accordingly to make sure you are receiving your hours each week to get your full per diem. If you are ok with working the major holidays, it certainly helps your profile to get selected for an interview. It shows the manager you are willing to help out their staff who would like to have time off with their families.
Show up for your recruiter - The world may be your oyster for travel, but remember that your recruiter is hustling to get you the best placement possible! Know the difference between an empowered traveler and an entitled traveler. Be a great communicator and show up as a kind and professional partner to them, so they want to go the extra mile for you.
Fall 2019 - the market temperature is hot for OR! That means more jobs and less competition for each job. It is an extra hot season to enjoy traveling and having extra leverage in picking top pay packages.
When one might hear travel nursing companies say, “We staff in all 50 states”.
What this means: The agency is legally set up with the ability to staff in all 50 states.
What this does not mean: The agency has jobs in all 50 states.

Across all of the USA there are around 420 open travel OR jobs at one time, yet many states still have no jobs at all. California, as always, holds the trophy for having the most needs (hint: it’s a great state to have a license in!) Washington is also looking great this season.

“I would recommend if possible to try to start before January 1. A lot of travelers get to this point and decide they want to take the holidays off. I would advise not doing that or at least starting in December. The market will be flooded [with travelers] come beginning of January.”

Are prepared for interviews to make sure they are standing out.
